Recreation with Purpose

At the Summit School at Nyack, we believe that recreation is more than just an activity—it is a pathway to confidence, connection, and personal growth. Our dynamic recreation program is designed to provide every student with opportunities to explore their interests, take healthy risks, and build meaningful relationships in a safe and supportive environment.

We recognize that many of our students have faced challenges in social and school settings, and we are committed to offering experiences that foster joy, independence, and a sense of belonging. Whether through arts, sports, fitness, outdoor adventures, or creative clubs, our program ensures that every student can find a place where they thrive.

By continuously evolving to meet the interests of our students, we cultivate a culture of participation without pressure—where students can try new things, develop lifelong skills, and create lasting memories. Through both on-campus and off-campus experiences, we empower students to embrace recreation as a key part of their personal success, helping them step into their future with confidence and enthusiasm.

At Summit School, recreation is not just about having fun—it’s about unlocking potential.

Outdoor Recreation

Adventure Starts Here

Summit’s Outdoor Recreation program invites students to embrace the thrill of nature while building confidence and resilience. In the fall, students take in the crisp air and changing leaves on scenic hikes, while the Running Club meets at the Hook to start the day with energy and focus. Winter brings the excitement of Ski Club, where students hit the slopes at Big Snow, Mountain Creek, and Mount Peter. For those seeking a challenge, rock climbing offers a chance to push limits and build strength. As the weather warms up, students dive into swimming trips, enjoying time in the water for both fun and fitness. Whether on land, on the rocks, or in the water, our outdoor recreation program provides exhilarating ways for students to stay active, explore new interests, and connect with the world around them.

On Campus Activities

Engage, Explore & Enjoy

Summit’s On Campus Activities offer something for everyone, creating a space where students can learn, compete, and unwind in a supportive environment. Culinary sessions let students bring their favorite recipes to life, with monthly competitions adding a delicious challenge. The Music Room comes alive once a week for students to play guitar, piano, and more. For hands-on creativity, students can craft rugs, paintings, clay art, Legos, perler beads, and TikTok-inspired projects. Competitive minds can test their skills on board games, billiards, ping pong, and video games, or join in on themed events like Scattergory Nights and Coffee House Bingo. Wellness is a priority, with Zen Zone meditation, guided yoga, and Wellness Wednesdays focusing on both mental and physical health. From casual fun to structured programs, our on-campus activities provide a welcoming space for every student to participate, grow, and connect.

Off Campus Activities

Into the World

Summit’s Off Campus Trips turn every outing into an opportunity for exploration, adventure, and connection. Students can enjoy friendly competition with bowling, mini golf, laser tag, and arcade nights, or take in the latest films with movie trips—including outdoor screenings in the summer. For those with a creative side, we offer guided painting classes on canvas and pottery. Food lovers can join culinary outings to Bari, Starbucks, Chipotle, and local ice cream spots, while shopping enthusiasts visit American Dream Mall, Target, thrift stores, and more. Outdoor recreation trips bring students closer to nature with hiking, biking, swimming, and disc golf, while unique experiences like walks with animals, amusement parks, museums, and Broadway shows create unforgettable memories. Whether it’s discovering new interests or simply enjoying time with friends, our off-campus trips offer something exciting for everyone.

What are WISE points?

The WISE program (Where They Belong, Involved, Safe, and Ever-Respectful) helps students build positive habits and responsibility by earning points for meeting expectations in school and residential life. Points are awarded for things like participation, respect, staying on task, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. By following the WISE program, students develop strong life skills, stay motivated, and contribute to a positive school community.

Clubs & Sports

Find Your Team

Summit’s Clubs and Sports program gives students the chance to explore their interests, build friendships, and develop new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether joining a team sport like basketball, volleyball, or track, or diving into special interest clubs like Book Club, Fantasy Sports, or Student Council, there’s something for everyone. The Running Club meets at the Hook for morning workouts, while the Ski Club hits the slopes in winter. Creative minds can contribute to Summit Positive News, bringing campus updates to life. With so many ways to get involved, students can compete, collaborate, and grow—both on and off the field.
